The idea behind BagFrames

In 2014 I travelled to the Philippines with a saggy, torn, and half-broken crossbody bag. The main zipper was broken, but as a poor university student, I didn't care. It was the type of bag that, unless I had a hook to hang it on, would turn flat as a pancake, fold over itself, or turn itself inside out, spewing its contents like a volcano.

One day I visited an impromptu outdoor restaurant set up on a concrete slab. There was no place to hang my bag, and it was somewhat dirty, so I couldn't place it on the next chair over. I put my crossbody down on the concrete floor, and as fold upon fold of overlapping fabric appeared, resting against the dusty concrete, I was struck by a feeling of shame and guilt. The loose form of my bag collected more dirt than I had expected, and in places other than the bottom. But mostly it was the sad shape that would make the surrounding people take pity on me.

Ever since that experience, a thought has been brewing: is there a way to make bags look better and hold their shape?
